Marche on one side, Romagna on the other: at Hotel Olympia you just have to choose! Here are some ideas that we have selected for you.
GRADARA
An ancient middle age village, Gradara and his castle dominates the panorama from above. The view from the walls sweeps over the Romagna hinterland and the coast, from Cesenatico to Gabicce. We recommend a visit to the castle, where you can walk through the numerous rooms where the Malatesta, Sforza, Borgia and Della Rovere families slept, the most famous families of the Italian Middle Ages.
THE CAVES OF FRASSASSI
If you have never visited them, the Frasassi caves are a must: you can find them in the Marche Apennines, inside the Gola della Rossa and Frasassi natural park. They are 30 km long: the largest complex of underground caves in Europe! – and extended over eight different geological levels, with an incredible system of tunnels, stalactites and stalagmites.
SAN LEO
If you cross the Romagna hinterland, towards the border with Marche, you can recognize San Leo from the characteristic shape of its fortress. Once, it was the centre of the Montefeltro region, it also became famous for having imprisoned the Count of Cagliostro, an alchemist accused of heresy.
URBINO
A renaissance jewel. We recommend starting with a walk in the Parco della Resistenza, up to the Albornoz Fortress. From the many vantage points you have a 360-degree view of the village and its surroundings. The descent towards the center offers you endless glimpses and perspectives… watch out the steps!
REPUBLIC OF SAN MARINO
Land of Liberty, San Marino is the oldest republic in the world. Its center is full of shops and restaurants, but also of historic buildings and monuments. You can follow different routes, which lead you to the three towers: from each one you can admire the coast and the hinterland at an enviable height – 749 m above sea level -.
MONTE SAN BARTOLO NATURAL PARK
Following the panoramic road that leads from Gabicce Mare to Pesaro, you can cross the natural park of Monte San Bartolo. We advise you to stop once you reach the top: from the top of the cliff you are overlooking the blue sea. Along the way, you will also find medieval villages such as Fiorenzuola di Focara and Casteldimezzo.
